Ninette

Today
I found out
that I was born
to write poetry
this I know to be true
because when I try
to write in prose
it's at best
a mess

At its worst
it's pure nonsense.
Lifeless characters
Minimal scenery
No understandable plot
While my poetry has
strong, clear images
and heart tugging
power too

Today
I found out
that I was born
to write poetry
you the readers told me
in your kind reviews
my words provoke
strong feelings
in you

Rules: The poem consists of nine lines, each increasing in one syllable, and then at the midpoint the lines start decreasing by one syllable. The form, when centered, appears like a paper lantern. You can have as many verses as you wish, but make sure you write less than 40 lines to keep to the contest rules.
