Pattern Power- Stanza

Pattern Power

We repeat certain patterns in our daily life
Some serve a purpose, some do not
Strive though we might to fix our bad habits
In their endless cycle we are caught

Our patterns are learned from the beginning of life
Useful ones and not so useful ones both
Useful patterns can keep us safe from harm
The others can stunt emotional growth

Patterns exist in everyone's life
Stop and consider for a minute
Some of the things that we do
Like loving a perfect brute

We think to ourselves, this is all I'm worth
I am meant to be someone's punching bag
This is a pattern that is hard to break
Specially if parts of us sag

Of all the patterns that exist in our lives
This is the one that makes me the saddest
I would see all such animals hung
It is the pattern that makes me the maddest

Patterns exist in every life
Some can be fixed some can't
Fix what you can, forget the rest
So ends this personal rant

1st Draft
We repeat certain patterns
Over and over again
Do it this way our mind warns
Anything else brings pain
