This is an ancient Lithuanian form that I wanted to try. It consists of three lines, depending what form you choose 3, 5, 7, 9 that is the total number of syllables in the poem. Typically its laid out like this: Line 1 -- Introduction, Line 2 -- Illumination, Line 3 -- Conclusion. The iamb patterns are like this:
In Bogato 9, the first and second lines each contain two feet of iambic or trochaic (x/x/ x/x/ / or /x/x /x/x /). The third line is a single syllable. In Bogato 7, the first and second lines each contain one foot of anapestic or dactylic (xx/ xx/ / or /xx /xx /). The third line is a single syllable. It is rare to see a Bogato 7 offering which attempts to accent the second syllable (x / x x/x /). It may be used for humor or dramatic effect. In Bogato 5, the first and second lines each contain one foot of iambic or trochaic (x/ x/ / or/x /x /). The third line is a single syllable. In Bogato 3, the first and second lines each contain one foot of monoic (/ / /). The third line is a single syllable |
