Woulf Framework

Synopsis: Woulf of the Wolven has a special talent. His talent makes it difficult to function as a productive member of his pack. On his coming of age day he leaves his pack to seek a way to overcome what he see's as a curse. He travels to many different places on his world and meets several other species. Each species gives him a piece of the solution to controling his talent but the final piece is within himself. Eventually he gets it all figured out and returns to his pack to marry his perfect mate.

He was almost ready to go. One way or the other he had to leave and he would rather leave on his own terms.

Strapping on his backpack he went to say good-bye to Iceflower and the rest of his year mates.

He was a failure in his tribes' eyes but he knew that he had not failed at anything except not fitting in. Head high and shoulders back he said his good-byes.

His year mates were waiting for him at the gate, they knew that eventually, he had to come this way.

Lacy pure white pelt and blue filigree on her face, was first as the medicine woman in training should be. She had tears in her eyes but did not let them fall. She must appear strong as befitted her status.

If you saw this pup you would not think much about him, his blue-black mane gave a strong suggestion of great beauty to come and that was about the only thing you noticed. If however you watched this pup you would notice a few things were a bit off with him.

He was seldom seen near the more volitile pups like Darkling, but seem to choose his friends from the quieter pups. He and Grayling were almost inseperatable. The next thing you might notice is that whatever mood you were in, that was the mood he was in, until he moved past you and then he seemed to be in the same mood as the person he was nearest. Since few people actually paid that much attention to him he was nearly eight before his parents noticed.

It was at a birthday party for the Chief Alpha Rosset that his strange behaviour was brought to his parents attention. Everyone was there from the littlest pup to the eldest Wisdom Keeper. For most of the day Woulf was to be found at the fringes of the party, as far from others as he could get without inciting too much curiosity.

Dark Zane was head of the News Gathers for the Wisdoms. This made him inquisitive by nature and he noticed Would skulking around the edges of the group and he was curious why. He placed himself near enough to watch Woulf but to not be seen by him. Why would a seven year old activly avoid social interaction? That was the question.

Setting

Wolven is a unspoiled, non-industrialized world. Woulf lives in a very rural community. The world is also shared by several different species so the anti-mechanization is a choice they have made. They live far from the sun so their world while not an ice world is more prone to colder conditions than humans would live in. It is also why the trees and bushes tend towards reds and purples and the species are adapted to live in the colder climate.

There is one sun and two moons. There is only one salt water body, the rest of the lakes & rivers are small, fresh water bodies

Opening Scene: Woods, tall old trees, bushes and mossy ground. The only sounds are the soft sound of the breeze and bird song. In the center of the clearing we are in there is a rabbit and off to one side what looks like a wolf pup. At this moment the pup has just celebrated his 6th year

Scene 2: A village , the houses are made from found materials. Around a central square are a number of businesses. Outside this central area are several small houses each with it's garden. There are only 300 beings in the village at this time. The central are is decorated for a party as the village is celebrating the birthday of their Pack Leader. The pup now stands on two legs and appears to be about ten years old

Scene 3- 7: Same village except that there are now more people. In 3 we see the pup now a strapping lad of 15 heading into a hair dressing salon. In 4 it is a Drs office and he is 16, This repeats for each job he tries between the age of 15 & 20. Each year consists of 6 months of training then six months on the job before he has to leave. The jobs are 1)Hair Dresser. 2) Medicine, 3) Day care, 4) Kitchen Helper, 5) Gardener, 6) Trapper

Scene 8 would be the scene depicted in "Choice", It is the end of the first chapter and the real beginning of the story.

{I need to do some research on what equipment would be available; I find myself torn between thinking in terms of pioneer days and wanting to have modern things like electricity available.}

F. Resolution
1. We return to Woulf's home village, where he settles into a pretty normal life

Woulf is my protagonist, in this story he is seven years old. He is the only child of hunters. He is at the age where he wants to be like his parents so he practices with his peers. He has a black coat that is almost blue & even at this young age he keeps it neat & glossy. He is fussy about getting it dirty. As a child of hunters he has a pretty good life and has never known privation nor has he had occasion to experience fear but you would have a hard time knowing that is you saw him in a formal setting. If he is with his peers he reflects their feelings both the good ones & the bad ones. In a large group you never know what he is going to do because every time he gets within two feet of someone he changes, to reflect how the person is feeling and if there are several people near him he changes depending on who he is looking at. He has learned to find the calmest, happiest person in the room and keep close to them. Since he was a new pup he has been quite cut off from his own emotions as others emotions overwhelm his own. Here in the beginning of his story he is a mirror and not much else. As such peoples reaction to him is based on how they feel about themselves Woulf's parents are both betas

His peers include: Grayling, Iceflower, Ebony and Darkling
Grayling and Darkling are brothers, twins. Grayling's pelt is a beautiful silver gray, while Darkling is a dusty black. Personality wise Grayling is the calmer more thoughtful one while Darkling is always up for a bit of exploring. Their parents work in the kitchens

Iceflower and Ebony are sisters, also twins. Iceflower's pelt is pure white while Ebony is as black as Woulf. Iceflower is calm, Ebony volatile. They are the daughters of the pack alphas so they are used to being obeyed. This tends to make them both a bit bossy

Most pups have a twin, Woulf was one of the few who didn't thus his parents tend to spoil him a lot.

The rabbit- is just a rabbit but it has an important lesson for Woulf

The doctor- patient, kind, gentle a doctor who cares about his patients

The adults- Parents etc of all different personalities

Genre: Speculative Fiction, the piece I am thinking of could be called science fiction except that it deals in part with empathy as an innate characteristic of the main character which puts it a bit into fantasy so speculative fiction as a combo of the two

Theme: Make the best use possible of the talent you are born with
