Cassandra must learn to control her mind and use it to move her world towards a more planet oriented focus. First she learns to control her own mind then she learns ways and means to fix her planet and finally she learns how to control her people and guide them down the road to an ecologically sound world.
Basic idea: To move a person from money oriented thinking to a more nature oriented thinking. The main lesson is about preserving the world against destruction by the inhabitants with an aside to restoring balance to an ecology that has been damaged by uncontrollable means.
Outline:
Meet Cassandra, she has a rare gift on her world. She is telepathic. She comes from a highly industrialized world where everything is about business and making money. Think Ferengi
The Azsii are quiet, pastorial and all high telepaths. Some among them have other mental abilities as well Think Yoda only in trees instead of swamps
Her parents are part of the planetary greening party which advocates more sensible use of the world they were given
The Azsii have a school where they train the children from other worlds in the use of their Physic powers
She shows herself as a telepath when she is five years old
The Azsii accepts children from the age of six to the University
Her Parents have enough that they can ship her off world to the University for training
The Azsii require no tuition but they extract from their students a contract to use what they learn at the University to make their home planets healthy
She does not know what the Azsii mean by their creed of "Put the world first". Even though her parents back re-greening the planet they are like most of the people on their planet, they are looking for a way to make money from that.
The Aszii begin their students re-education by sending them out into their tree city with orders to help nature. The students first challenge is to figure out exactly how they can do that.
She attempts to throw money at the problem but when she gets an F for her actions she has to re-evaluate the assignment with an eye to figuring out how to solve a natural problem by natural means. This is her first? challenge
The Aszii second challenge takes the class to another world, one that is in danger of natural extinction and their assignment is to create a plan that will begin the recovery process on the planet
She again begins with a plan that would cost a lot of money to complete and she is encouraged to think of other methods for helping the planet in question
The Aszii third challenge has to do with manipulation and management of people and labour. The goal is to learn how to get people to care for their planet as the Aszii do.
After four months under the mental control of an Aszii she becomes aware of other means to manipulate people into being more enviromentally concious and why control of another person is the height of evil.
The Aszii now gets the class to repeat the first test and those who have learned the lessons the best are allowed to return home. Some including our Heroine are given the chance to join an Aszii team to the planet that requires help to grow green again.
